Strut Replacement

I have a 1999 9-3 with 80000 miles on it. I am planning to replace the
struts and shocks some time soon. I was wondering if anyone had any
suggestions for a tool to pop the lower ball-joint out of the strut carrier
(king pin?). There is very little room between the top of the ball joint
stud and the CV joint so a traditional ball joing press won't fit. The
second question is what is the best way to loosen that big nut that holds
the strut insert in the strut carrier? Finally, I am looking for a little
stiffer strut than stock. Any suggestions?

Thanks
