Corinne, I'd bet that's a bad ball joint.  Some of them may or may not have
grease fittings, depending on what brand they are. I had the very same noise
happen to me last year.  The first time I noticed it was at an airport
parking garage.  My Saab sounded more like a 70's Ford station wagon!


If it were me, I'd replace all four of them.  (two per side) That way you'd
know you're good to go for probably another 127K.  The parts are reasonably
inexpensive (about $22.00 each from Import Part Service in Boise).  It's not
a difficult job if you're reasonably mechanical.  The only tough part is the
bolts that hold the ball joints in, may be rusted in place.  Be sure to coat
them with anti-seize compound when you reassemble.  (if you don't do your
own work, you might suggest that to your mechanic.  As your car gets up in
years, you'll have to do more stuff to the front end, and almost every job
requires pulling a ball joint or two!)
