On an '86, 900, here's how to replace the wiper arms.

1. Pry off the plastic cap at the arm base - this covers a nut that
secures the arm to the wiper motor spline. This shouldn't need more
than fingernails, in most cases.

2. Remove the nut.

3. Pull the arm off the spline. This is harder than it sounds, as the
fit is VERY tight. I found that a 'faucet handle puller' worked fine
for this. It is a device that looks sort of like a cork remover - a
threaded shaft has a pin on the end and two 'wings' slide up and down.
You can get this for under $10 at most hardware stores. Place it so the
pin is centered on the spline shaft and fit the 'hands' at the end of
the 'wings' under the wiper arm. Turn the screw and the arm will pull
off smoothly.

4. Press new arm on the spline, making sure it is oriented exactly as
the old one was.

5. Attach the nut and tighten it down.

6. Reattach the plastic cap.
