Thanks guys I'll have my Saab mechanic look into both fixes.

Tom,

I have had problem with front rotors getting a rusty ridge build up that
under certain circumstances will have the pad rub onto it causing this
noise. This ridge occurs at the outermost edge just where the pads stop
rubbing on the shiny surface. I either removed the wheel and filed it off or
had the shop do a pass along the surface with the brake resurfacing machine
which removed it. This has always done away with the problem and it never
recurred. Good Luck and happy SAABing!

Hi There

I have had a similar problem with a 2002 SAAB 9-3 after 2-days of pressing
in new bearings checking brake calipers & brackets I traced the problem to
the lower stanchion (curved suspension arm) the bolt that goes through this
& locates the lower control arm is not torqued properly.

The fix is to disconnect the lower ball joint so that you can get a torx
socket on the bolt which comes down from the top. Remove the bolt & apply
some Vaseline to the top recessed part of bolt refit & torque to specs then
tighten 90%. I am sorry I cannot remember the torque spec but there is a
service bulletin / tech tip on this. So if your SAAB tech looks on the gm
infonet site he will be able to find this. Hope this solves your problem
