123k miles is not even broken in... my 85 has 268k miles on it, and it's
still reliable.

1. The CV boots should be replaced, since they protect the joint... if you
don't, the CV joint will fail very quickly... then you are looking at over
$200 per side to have a shop replace them. (it's about $40 tops to replace
both boots youself, maybe over $100 to have a shop do them.

2. Cheap pads would run you about $40-$50 for all four wheels... and about
2 hours labor in your driveay. They're very easy to do yourself, and need
minimal mechanical ability... just make sure you get a good repair manual
if you are unsure of yourself.

3. This is more expensive... to get a chain replaced will run you $300-$500
for a shop to do it. Don't go by my experience... my chain has been
rattling at idle for the last 110k miles. But it could go at any minute,
and damage the valves.

The first two jobs are easily done by the basic do-it-yourselfer, with a
good Haynes or Bentley manual. The third I would suggest having done
professionally, preferably by an independent Saab shop. Make sure you take
it to a shop that has alot of experience with Saabs... you'll save money on
labor since they're familiar with all the Saab quirks.

Let us know where you live, and maybe someone else on the list can give you
a recommendation as to a local shop.

Hope this helps,
Benjamin
