Handling in Snow

This is the first winter I've had my 1998 900 and I feel it's handling in
snow is, if anything, better than the 'classic'900's I've had for the
past18 years. The 98 has the A/T, where-as the classic 900's all had 5
speeds. The A/T may help in the snow...it has a 'winter' button which
causes the trans to start out in 3rd gear to reduce wheel spin and that
seems to work real well. All my cars have had 15' all-season tires, which
are quite adequate for our area, which seldom gets over a 6' snow fall. In
Canada, you may want to go with a full winter radial. Equiping the car
with all-season or winter radials is the most important consideration to
obtaining good snow handling.

Actually, I've always been slightly disappointed in the handling of the
'classic' 900 and 99 in the snow...but I suspect that's because I had
driven 2-stroke 96's before getting my first 99 in 1977. Those light
weight 'strokers' were a blast in the snow! It also seems to me that the
9000 is a bit better in the snow than the classic 900/99.
