In the 99 (with Bosch CIS), cold starting problems could be related to thecoldstart valve or to the interlock preventing the fuel pump from running with theengine stalled. The fuel pump runs if ignition on AND (air flow sensor lifted OR starter engaged)The problem occurs if the extra set of contacts in the starter solenoid getburned. Then, you crank away but no fuel gets in. Sometimes punching thethrottle lifts the air flow sensor just slightly & the engine catches.Of course, by this time the thermo-time switch thinks the engine has beenfed enough and refuses to prime.A work-around is to pull the plug off the air-flow sensor. This changesthe equation to:The fuel pump runs if ignition on The permenant solution is to clean or replace the starter solenoid. I puta capacitor across the contacts to reduce burning. (I think. Or maybe Ijust put them across the solenoid coil & across the starter contacts)BTW unplugging the sensor also let me start the car when the fuel pump wasworn out. At cranking voltages, the pump was no longer putting out 50psi,so I got no fuel past the injectors. By running the pump at non-crankingvoltage, I got enought pressure. This only lasted a few months. Get a suitablewrench before taking out the fuel pump; hammer & chisel doesn't work too well.JC Whitney sell a fuel guage for the Bosch CIS for < $50. It can test the fuelpump & the warm-up regulator. The cold start valve opens if ignition on AND (vaccuum decreases OR starter engaged)Again, this can be affected by the starter solenoid. Check to see if thecold start valve puts out fuel during cranking.(Of these two circuits I said are switched by the starter solenoid, I thinkone is actually switched by a relay elsewhere. I belive it is the cold startvalve which is wired to the solenoid.)Its been a few years since my fuel system gave me real trouble. I recommendcarrying relays (or jumpers) in case a relay fails.Sorry if this doesn't help with your '900. Maybe a manual override to getfuel into the manifold would work.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My radical ideas would never be accepted by a staid company like this.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
